The Ground Engineering Awards 2008 took place on Friday 15 February to celebrate the very best in geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering. I was personally overwhelmed by the level of response to this inaugural, specialist sector event and feel assured that the awards are a welcome and long awaited addition to the construction events calendar.
The ceremony was held at the Royal Garden Hotel where stand-up comedian Dominic Holland delivered a sharp and highly entertaining performance as host for the afternoon. The Awards presentation honoured the huge successes within the industry and highlighted the ways in which companies, individuals or projects have demonstrated innovation, sustainability and value engineering.
The result was a day of inspiration, humour, celebration and networking as the great and the good came together under one roof.
I for one cannot wait until next year's event and invite you to start thinking about your entries for 2009. Watch out for further information in Ground Engineering magazine, including an event special that will go out with the March issue.
